When we think about people #management, we often think of it as overseeing and leading individuals within an organization. This often involves various activities aimed at attracting, developing, motivating, and retaining employees to achieve organizational goals and creating a productive work environment.
On paper, an effective people manager may be someone who does all of the above, someone who can build and maintain a team, onboard and orient them to your organization, set and review performance expectations, and know how to deal with employee relations, including conflict.
But a good people manager is more than just that. The good ones, the ones we want in leadership, are the ones who emphasize the importance of treating employees as individuals with unique needs, aspirations, and emotions. They are leaders who see the value in understanding and addressing employee concerns, who foster a sense of belonging and inclusivity, and who create environments where employees can truly thrive.
These leaders emphasize:
